Introduction

In October 2007, as part of Newham Borough Council’s Infrastructure Upgrade project a review was carried out of Mobile Implementation within the Public Sector in conjunction Mobile Data Association and SNT.

Findings in summary:

  • Take up the usage of web technology is relatively standard and mainstream.
  • All 44 Local Authorities surveyed had attempted mobile service delivery
  • But take up of mobile has been slow
  • Cost of creating services had however seen to be relatively low
  • Value of information delivered to mobile seen to be high
  • However marketing and engagement (activisation) costs very high and recurring

The review proposed the adoption of a Public Mobile Portal I.e

One Mobile Site (or platform upon which all mobile services are delivered) All technologies and all appropriate handsets supported
