The 2008 Urban Games in Bedford Park, for 13-18 year olds offered an opportunity to take part in several sports (Ultimate Frisbee, 3 on 3 StreetBall and Mountain Bike Time trials). All of the participants were selected by their Local Authority Sports Development Units through their schools before the big event...and congratulations to hosts Bedford Borough, who were crowned champions at the end of the day! Alongside the 3 main sports activities, there was also a basketball demonstration match from the MK Lions, and some amazing tricks from Champion Mountain Stunt Biker Andre Burton conversions in excess of 30% were achieved during the campaign.
Promotion of the Urban Games via a bespoke created action video, along with a delayed message informing of the availability of photos on the Team Beds and Luton website (www.teambedsandluton.co.uk) were sent to show attendees mobile phones via SNT Media Networks Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technology.
SNT Media Networks provided proximity marketing technology and messaging scheduling services (via blue-tooth) to send high action sports video content and messages to people’s mobile phones.
Rob Collins of SNT Media Networks commented “ Assisting in promotion of sport for young people is something we are thrilled to be associated with. The organisation of the day by all (and the weather) certainly made this a great success and with the ‘home’ side taking the overall win, we hope that next year’s event will be bigger and even more competitive. Our proximity marketing technology, assisted with the notification of it’s availability, by the Urban Games organisers, certainly shone through. With an amazing 61% conversion on content download vs detections and really underlines the power of our equipment and content for events”. Keely Glenister, Marketing and Communications Officer of team BEDS&LUTON said “We really liked the idea of sending out bluetooth messages to the participant and spectators at the Urban Games because it’s a really cool way to communicate with the young people, who we knew would all have their mobiles with them. We put together some footage of pro’s playing different the sports, alongside our web address so that people knew where they could download pictures and footage of the event. We hope that this will see an increase in traffic through our website and encourage new users”
